Cramer: The 8 Stocks That Control the Market
cnbc.com | November 03, 2009 | 07:00 PM EST

Warren Buffett just can’t move markets like he used to. Even his buyout of Burlington Northern Santa Fe [ BNI 98.26  +0.16 (+0.16%) ] wasn’t enough to push the Dow into positive territory.

It’s not his fault, though, Cramer said Tuesday. The only forces powerful enough to drive stocks are the same three sectors that led us up from the early March lows.

“Oil, tech and the banks are what matter,” Cramer said, “and without them we will not rally hard even when, logically, we should.”

These sectors are so important, he continued, that just eight stocks among them will tell you “all you need to know exactly what’s happening and what’s going to happen” in the market: JPMorgan Chase [ JPM 43.28  +0.82 (+1.93%) ], Goldman Sachs [ GS 172.00  +1.99 (+1.17%) ], Wells Fargo [ WFC 28.07  +0.20 (+0.72%) ], Bank of America [ BAC 16.29  +0.20 (+1.24%) ], Google [ GOOG 582.35  +12.386 (+2.17%) ], Apple [ AAPL 205.88  +5.96 (+2.98%) ], Chevron [ CVX 78.74  +1.97 (+2.57%) ] and Schlumberger [ SLB 64.63  +1.29 (+2.04%) ].
